Dvd editing/football highlight tape?

my head coach made my highlight tape of my junior year and put it on a dvd and gave it to me. it is just playback with no sound and i would like to add highlight effects so coaches know who i and i would like to add music. i also want to upload this on the internet the only problem is when i saved the video from the dvd on my computer it came up as a VLC form and the site on the internet doesnt except that type. i need something to convert it with that wont leave their watermark on the video.Dvd editing/football highlight tape?
it may make sense to do what i did and send it to they guys www.hi-lights.com : they added all sorts of fancy graphics and hi-lights to my tape.
