Most salons offer all three - what's the real difference? I home-dye my hair but would finally like to get a real color job done professionally. I just don't know what to ask for...Single process/partial highlights/full highlights -what's the difference???
Single process generally refers to just dying your hair one color. It's usually what people refer to when they say their hair is colored. If you have really dark hair that has never been color-treated for example, and you want a drastic change, because your hair won't show the new color. For those people, double process is best - and that ';bleaches'; (or whatever process the salon calls it) the hair to lighten hair, making it more receptive to the new color. Bleaching the hair is pretty intense though and done improperly, can damage the hair.
It sounds like you've dyed your hair before, so single process would be sufficient.
Full highlights adds the highlights to your entire head - the top and bottom layers. Partial highlights is generally just the surface where the sun would naturally hit. Foil is one method of applying highlights and at one salon, partial highlights includes 20 foils, while full highlights would be 40. Partial highlights are cheaper as well.
If you wear your hair up often, you may prefer full highlights so that the highlights appear at all times. Siince I have short hair, I have single process color with partial highlights and love it!
You can always check with the salon and ask if they do a consultation - they'd be more than happy to explain all of this to you.Single process/partial highlights/full highlights -what's the difference???
OK, single process is just coloring your whole head of hair, partial highlights are when they just highlight the top of your head or the crown and the whole head highlight is everything, top and underneath so if you put your hair up it will be consistent.
A single processes using hair color to lighten your hair up to 3 shades or darken your hair all the way to black. Generally it's applies all over the head, although you can have more than one color in your hair (block color). A partial highlight is highlighting the top and sides of your hair (everywhere but the occipital bone area). If you pull your hair up, you will see your darker roots. A full highlight is highlighting your whole head. Also remember that although highlight generally means blonde, it doesn't always.
A singlr process color is a color in which only one application of one color is needed. Partial high lights are when usually only the top of the hair is high lighted and full high lights is when the whole head is high lighted. Most salons offer foiling now, which is just another way to high light except you can use many colors instead of just one.
What we do in our salon is a full head of foils the first time you come in, at regular cost and then the next time, we do partial foils at a reduced price.
Foiling is really the way to go because if you want to look like a natural blonde, for instance, you can have three different blonde shades foiled in. This goes for reds and brunettes as well. If you want a more dramatic look, you can have blonde and dark put in your hair.
The possibilities are endless.
If you don't have a hairdresser, don't be afraid to stop somebody in the street, somebody with hair that you really like and ask them where they got it done and by which stylist.
